This camera rocks! It takes fantastic pictures PLENTY fast enough for ANY average user. I will bet you cant find another camera that you can take underwater and take GREAT MACRO pictures with for under $1700.00. The low raters in here have SLR on the brain or something. We have rattled off thousands of pictures of our new son and they are ALL great. I am also in the swimming pool industry and get paid 2 or 3 times week to do underwater photography for inspections. This camera will zoom in on the tip of screw or a chip in the plaster with perfect clarity, then pop a button and zoom out wide to get a whole shot of the entire deep end of the pool. It is VERY easy to use in every way too. Switching settings by bumping the top, bottom or sides is a GREAT feature if you have gloves on too. Again, this camera rocks! You want a sports action frame by frame camera? Go buy a SLR or something. You want a great family camera that will take the abuse of kids and a tropical or ski vacation? You found it right here! And no, I dont work for Olympus but I am underwater a whole bunch.

This camera is pretty much what I was looking for: small, light, easy to use, great photos. The only negative is that it is difficult to hold it so that part of your hand doesnt cover the lense, something I didnt realize until I looked at the photos later. If you dont want to worry about this issue, consider obtaining one of those micro tripods that can double as a "handle" for the camera. I found you do NOT need one of these to steady the shot, but it makes it so that your hand isnt actually trying to hold the camera and it elimnates the problem of covering the lense. I found the user interface easy to use, HOWEVER your settings are not kept for the next time you turn on the camera. This makes it more difficult to take spontaneous shots, since you might have to pause to set your options prior to the shot. This got a little annoying, but was workable. If you want updates to the OS you have to download the photo shop that comes with your camera and register it online. I had difficulties registering my camera, and the help desk at Olympus was less than helpful. I eventually dumped the Olympus photo program in lieu of other programs I had access to. I havent yet used this underwater, although that is planned for a future trip.
The camera performed as I hoped. Took great shots on land and in the water when we were snorkeling. Recommend that you buy extra batteries though, it goes through them in a hurry.
I did a lot of research before buying this camera. From everything people had written, it was hands down the most durable and waterproof. So far all of this holds true. I have had it a week and taken it jet skiing, in the ocean, and for an extended period of time underwater in a pool. The underwater pics and 720p video are great. Love the quick video record button. People complain about the quality of the pics, but I have already gotten many compliements on how it must be a professional camera. The only 2 downsides are it does take about 3-4 seconds to turn on, and can only take a pic about every 1-2 seconds, so it is not for shooting sports, but it is perfect for vactions as well as anything else since it looks like a normal camera unlike the others (i.e. canon)
Camera works great, I actually took pictures below 33ft (approximately 60ft) with no problems, when I got deeper than 60 ft the buttons stopped working but the camera started working again when above 33ft. Great pictures and videos, not sure how to get out of video mode once I get in it (other than powering it down), but I guess I am going to have to read the manual for that, the rest is pretty intuitive though.
